SY LA NUMERO UNO – 40 M KETCH (1983) – C.8007
The origin of the legend
La Numero Uno was not simply the first yacht by Perini Navi. She was the beginning of a doctrine. Launched in Viareggio in 1983, this 40-metre ketch introduced a design language and a technological philosophy without precedent in modern sailing.
Constructed in steel with aluminium superstructure and masts, she combined structural strength with refined weight distribution. Her commanding presence on the water was matched by a radical proposition: a large sailing yacht that could be managed with the composure of a motor yacht, without sacrificing performance. Today she sails as Infinium, a name that carries forward the vision first launched in 1983.
DESIGN IDENTITY
THE FIRST SIGNATURE
La Numero Uno embodied the exploratory spirit of Fabio Perini. She became the first sailing yacht equipped with a fully automated sail-handling system, transforming a complex manoeuvre into a controlled and intuitive operation. Her ketch rig, integrated with captive winches and centralised controls, altered the hierarchy of command at sea.
A flying bridge introduced a new elevated perspective for navigation and leisure, while hydraulic movable furnishings demonstrated a level of mechanical ingenuity rarely associated with sailing yachts of her era. Interiors offered a volume comparable to that of a motor yacht, establishing a new expectation of onboard comfort. Saloon, cabins and circulation areas were conceived as a coherent architectural whole rather than a traditional nautical compromise.
