SY PANTHALASSA – 56 m KETCH (2010)
A theatre upon the sea
Launched in 2010, S/Y Panthalassa is a 56-metre ketch that reimagined the possibilities of a sailing yacht’s interior. Built in aluminium with a beam of 11.5 metres and a displacement of around 500 tonnes, she embodies the elegance and engineering mastery of Perini Navi’s celebrated 56m series. Her name, evoking the primordial super-ocean, reflects her calling: a vessel conceived for voyages across vast horizons, yet attuned to intimate moments of life at sea.
DESIGN IDENTITY
Dialogue with the sea
The interiors of Panthalassa, created by the acclaimed Foster + Partners, dissolve the boundaries between inside and out. Expansive skylights flood the central saloon with daylight, while sweeping lines and free-flowing spaces allow constant dialogue with the sea. Six guest cabins, arranged symmetrically, accommodate up to twelve guests with refined discretion. Every surface and proportion was studied to enhance light, openness, and conviviality: a dining room that transforms into a boardroom, a saloon that becomes a cinema, and deck spaces designed as stages for al fresco living. Naval architecture by Perini Navi, in collaboration with Ron Holland, underpins the yacht’s effortless handling, with a total sail area of more than 1,500 square metres carried on masts rising above 58 and 48 metres.
INTERIOR DESIGN
Signature advances
The interiors of S/Y Panthalassa are sculpted as a continuous dialogue between light, geometry, and the sea. The circular skylights above the saloon bathe the space in natural radiance, creating shifting atmospheres from dawn to dusk. Curved seating lines the perimeter, embracing the panoramic views through vast windows, while a woven central structure defines the room with a sense of organic artistry. Pale leathers, warm timbers, and subtle textures combine to form an environment at once modern and serene, conceived by Foster + Partners as a fluid stage for conviviality, contemplation, and the art of living at sea.
